Hey,
So what's the deal with the new leak from the upstairs bathroom? I saw the water damage above the pantry, but it the problem actually in a bathroom fixture or a pipe in the ceiling?

Toilets
After going to coffee exchange and using their bathroom, it occurs to me that there are more options than low flush toilets or high flush toilets. Considering the concerns over clogging problems with a low flush toilet, getting a dual flush toilet is probably the best way to go though I haven't thoroughly researched this topic.
I went to treehugger and looked at what they had to say. They agree about dual flush toilets and add to it with low flow showerheads, sinks to the top of toilets, and no flush urinals. I don't know about how much these things cost but these are definitely possibilities looking to the future.
The relevant articles are here and here.
Also, to save some water right now, we can start filling half gallon milk containers with water and putting them in the toilet tank in order to displace water and thus use less of it per flush though there seems to be debate as to how effective this is (that is, does it wear out the toilet faster or require numerous flushes). See relevant debate here.

Waste costs and plumbing
I called Allied Waste Services in Fall River, MA and they told me that a refrigerator or a couch cost $65 a piece to be picked up. Appliance pick up is every other thursday (next is oct 2) and furniture pick up is the second saturday (next is oct 18) of every month. These costs are silly. Tyler has suggested some service called EZ-waste (I presume it's here) which is located in Westerly. That may be a good solution if the rates are reasonable.
I checked the BBB and Greenwood Plumbing looks all right. I haven't checked Angie's list (incidentally, their rates are a $5 sign up fee and then $1.30 per month or $10 for a year, $18 for 2 years, $25.50 for 3, and $32 for 4) because it costs money but the list of local BBB accredited pluming contractor companies is located here. We can look at their reliability reports and decide on three plumbers based on that.
Edit: Greenwood has had 2 complaints in the last 36 months, 1 was resolved and the other was administratively closed but it did receive a good review at merchant circle. P & D Plumbing, C.W. Cummings, Phillip's Plumbing, and Daniel's Plumbing have all received no complaints in the last 3 years.
Let's be sure to consider these things as well (basically:
ask for license and check number to see if it's current and if there are complaints
ask if the worker has insurance up to at least $500,000
ask how long they've been in business and for references
ask about cost
ask if clean up is included and make sure it's stated in the contract
ask if work is guaranteed
get a written estimate
ask contractors and realtors).
